Former Binance CEO and co-founder Changpeng Zhao made his first long public comment following his release from jail earlier this month.
Often referred to as “CZ,” Zhao, whose personal fortune is thought to be a remarkable $61 billion, spoke candidly about his experience behind bars and his future plans.
CZ candidly examined his time in prison, revealing that “having one piece of fruit a day” was considered a luxury. Notwithstanding the difficulties, CZ thanked the cryptocurrency community for their help throughout what he said to be his “darkest moments.”
Binance CEO CZ Plans
April saw Zhao sentenced to four months in prison; he started serving his time early in June. Though the details of his allegations are unknown, his brief detention has not sapped his entrepreneurial drive.
Upon his release, CZ expressed his intention to spend some time relaxing and thinking. “Let me relax a little. Then decide what to do next. Future prospects always present more chances than those of the past, he said.
Looking ahead, CZ has a number of major initiatives under development. Zhao anticipates that education will play a significant role in his future activities, and his new project, *Giggle Academy*, will provide courses on blockchain technology, distributed finance, and other innovative ideas.
CZ also expressed his continuous curiosity with biotechnology and artificial intelligence (AI), disciplines he intends to investigate more thoroughly. Emphasizing his dedication to the distributed finance movement, CZ has committed to keep supporting blockchain-related projects even if his tenure at Binance is almost up.
Working on his next book, one of CZ’s other main undertakings, he has been away from the crypto industry, and though he acknowledged that writing has taken more time than anticipated, he reassured his readers that the “lion’s share” of the book is complete, indicating an approaching publication.
Zhao resigned from his position at Binance, but he reassured those involved that the exchange is flourishing in his absence and described its ongoing success as “every founder’s dream.” CZ still holds a controlling 90% of the business, ensuring his significant influence even after his departure.
But the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has barred him from occupying a formal leadership role inside the corporation.
