Elon Musk’s Grok and OpenAI’s ChatGPT bots will be competing with Erik Voorhees’ new AI product on the X social media platform. Voorhees is the CEO of ShapeShift and is known for being an early supporter of Bitcoin. This statement comes after Voorhees recently said that Grok is too centralized and closed-source.
With a series of tweets, Voorhees introduced Venice AI, which he worked on with a former Binance executive and hopes to help “unfettered civilizational advancement.” In contrast to its rivals, Venice claims to protect privacy and free speech, rejecting bias, censorship, and spying. Voorhees says that the AI lets people connect directly with machine intelligence, making it easier to create text, images, and code.
Bitcoin Advocate Promotes Free Speech
In line with Elon Musk’s support for free speech, Voorhees stressed Venice’s part in promoting unrestrained speech. The development team is made up of Voorhees, an anonymous chief technology officer, Teana Baker-Taylor, who has worked for Binance, HSBC, and Circle, and an insignificant but skilled group of engineers.
Even though Voorhees supported Venice, Bitcoin supporter Jeff Kirdeikis disagreed with how it handled difficult topics, comparing it to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Kirdeikis’ tweet came up in the middle of ongoing conversations that started when Musk promoted Grok. It shows how AI-powered communication is changing.
