The Cardano community has achieved a major milestone with the announcement of the Chang hard fork date. Intersect, a well-known member-based Cardano business, said that the robust fork working group has agreed to make changes to the mainnet on September 1, 2024.
On social media, Intersect said, “The hard fork working group has reached consensus and agreed to upgrade the mainnet on September 1, 2024.” This decision is significant for ADA as it advances the concept of a community-run government.
Cardano’s Governance Shift
The Chang upgrade plays a crucial role in Cardano’s final phase of development, known as Voltaire. By incorporating on-chain governance, the network hopes to give all of its stakeholders more power through democratic decision-making, which will help it become self-sufficient in the long run.
In line with the ideas of decentralized government, this update will give Cardano’s community members a direct say in the future of the network, in line with decentralized government ideas. The hard fork working group chose September 1 as the upgrade date after a meeting on August 23.
Originally scheduled for August 27, a crucial “go/no-go” call led to the decision to postpone the mainnet change by a few days. This extension gives exchanges and decentralized apps (dApps) more time to make the changes they need to in order to get the ecosystem ready for the upgrade.
In the third quarter of 2023, we set up SanchoNet as a testnet to continue testing the Chang hard fork. We use SanchoNet to test the processes and tools required for Cardano’s on-chain governance. It is an important part of getting ready for the upcoming upgrade.
Moreover, Cardano has been expanding its operations in South America concurrently with the announcement of the firm split. In June 2024, ADA publicly announced several significant partnerships in Argentina.
Some of these partnerships were with the University of Buenos Aires, the State of Entre Rios, and the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN). These partnerships aim to enhance ADA instruction in the region and explore the potential applications of the network there. This will make Cardano’s effect on the world even bigger.
