Coinbase’s 15 second Apple Pay tutorial video featuring Peanut the Squirrel (PNUT) meme coin had many speculating that it is in the works for a listing on the platform. PNUT is the top trending token under “spotlight” tag in the video.
The price chart of PNUT’s shows a steep climb in the end of the tutorial. Despite the token being not listed on Coinbase, traders have been waiting on Coinbase’s inclusion of the token in its list of additions. It was not without notice that said the subtle nod to PNUT.
Stepan Cornelius, a social media user on X formerly known as Twitter quickly pointed out the detail, initially posting a question mark and then tweeting ‘is this a hint of him listing?’ PNUT has gained almost 12 percent in the past 24 hours, 11.3 percent in the past week and a whopping 981 percent over the past month.
Coinbase Fuels Excitement Over PNUT and FRED Tokens
The total market cap supported by the token is now $1.2 billion.To further add to the intrigue, FRED, PNUT’s Ontario District ’s sibling token too was part of the video and named after Fred the raccoon. Its possible listing on Coinbase also excited traders, it was also posted, “I’m more excited at the prospect of #Fred being listed on Coinbase.”
Coinbase’s recent launch of its Onramp service, which allows for fiat to crypto purchases with Apple Pay, coincides with the Apple Pay tutorial video. The video itself is not in visible on Coinbase’s official YouTube channel, however, as hidden facts about the video spread through the crypto community.
The highly successful Solana based meme coins Pnuts and FRED were released in November, inspired by Peanut the Squirrel and Fred the Raccoon. Mark Longo posted social media photos of their lives and the animals rose to internet fame.
The pair became coupled until New York authorities were tipped off about the animals and seized them before they euthanized them. The public uprising and the criticism Elon Musk, among others, lashed out at underscored government overreach.
To immortalize the pair, the crypto community came up with meme coins. First, Coinbase has not confirmed whether PNUT or FRED will be listed, but their presence amidst the tutorial has grown traders excited and gabbing about it.
