Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum recent post on X, talked about some serious threats in the world of technology and urged people to be careful in areas other than decentralized finance (DeFi).
The well-known Canadian programmer in the world of cryptocurrencies stressed that the fight against centralization should involve more than just banking apps.
Buterin identified major issues that require attention, including centralized identity systems, flaws in outdated operating systems, the lack of clarity in algorithms, and the rise of AI-powered spying. He said that these problems are very dangerous to people’s freedoms and to the tech world as a whole.
Ethereum On Privacy Risks
Buterin talked about a lot of threats, but his worries about brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) that can read minds stood out. New developments in non-invasive BCIs, which use fMRI technology and AI to decode words from the brain, have made people worried about what they might mean for privacy.
Despite the fact that this technology is still in its infancy and won’t be accessible to the public for some time, the potential for misuse has sparked debate.Even though Buterin supported BCIs, he worried about the risks of private BCIs with built-in backdoors that could let other people see someone’s private thoughts.
To avoid these kinds of risks, he stressed how important it was to make BCIs open source. “If we don’t address these threats,” Buterin said, “the world would still’really, really stink’ even with ‘perfect’ decentralized finance.”
Buterin said money is important for solving these new problems, but it’s not the only solution. He discussed methods of payment that safeguard privacy, such as utilizing decentralized finance to pay for VPNs, as an illustration of how financial innovation can complement and contribute to broader technological advancements.
