As Wietse Wind, a top XRP Ledger (XRPL) developer issues a crucial warning to the XRP community, we are on a high alert. Wind has warned users that the ‘Xaman’ token (sic) is fake and that no official token with such name will ever exist.
Xaman is said to be a noncustodial client (wallet) for the XRP Ledger allowing users to interact with the ledger and use other third party tools. But Wind tweeted that ‘There is no Xaman token.’
XRP Developer Denounces Fake Token
No Xaman token will exist. “We won’t touch meme shit coin issuing.” Flipping his finger, he stressed that he does not have a association with the Xaman token, which is being traded on the brand new platform First Ledger.
Wind referred to the token as a ‘fake meme scam coin’ and warned users to stay away from it. And with the Ripple ecosystem continually growing, such scams are becoming an increasing risk in the cryptocurrency space.
Wind’s warning is a reminder for community members of vigilance – to check from official channels if and when receiving information on COVID-19 related scams.
Newly issued tokens on the XRP Ledger have seen an surge with First Ledger breaking the all time high for new tokens issued daily. With so much activity, the stakes are raised for potential scams, warns Vet, an XRPL dUNL validator and co-founder of xrpcafe, and echoes Wind’s concerns.
“We had a ton of impersonators out there.” I won’t ever tweet out a meme coin. I’ll never DM you. Stay vigilant,” he cautioned. The official Xaman Wallet (formerly Xumm) account has also warned users about what are not new to the cryptocurrency landscape, namely impersonation scams that lure users in with the cover of offering support or NFT minting services for the sole purpose of stealing personal information for malicious purposes.
In this more complexed environment, getting informed and looking out is even more important than it ever has been.
